The distinctive metal-looking label of the 1997 Primitivo di Manduria Doc "Patriarca" wine from the Cantine Soloperto, won the first annual "Castello Spagnolo Wine Award", or "Spanish Castle Wine Award". The award is assigned to wines produced in the Apulia wine region and the jury includes mostly journalists. The label was chosen among the 400 entries presented by the various regional winemakers.
This is a special recognition for a special wine. The award corroborates the deserved success of the dynamic Mandurian wine producing, family-run commercial farm and winery.
The winner of the competition was one of 16 wines in as many categories.
The Cantine Soloperto are now part of the history of the first annual of an enological event that promises to become one of the most prized regional awards. In fact, the second annual is already scheduled for next year.
The"Castello Spagnolo Wine Award" goal is to promote further development of the enological sector within the Apulia Region, as well as to introduce greaterr numbers of consumers to quality wines. Without doubt, the "Patriarca" (Patriarch) wine from the Cantine Soloperto is one of the best Primitivo (same DNA as the American Zinfandel grape) di Manduria currently on the market.
"Winning this award was very gratifying" said the administrator of the winery Ernesto Soloperto. "The label is truly original, different from the standard. When we designed it" continued Soloperto "we decided that it should be identified a special wine and the Patriarca is definitely a superior wine".
The Patriarca is a Primitivo di Manduria DOC with 14.5% alcohol per volume. The wine rests for nine months in barriques assuming the typical wood perfume that melds with the characteristics of the grape.
