Alain Dominique Perrin and the Legal Drinking Bottles
Staff Writer – January 31, 2004

France, Permit de Conduire wineIn 2003, the European Union introduced new driving rules to improve safe driving conditions. The new regulation introduced "points" assigned to each driver's licence. Such points decrease with each serious infractions and, of course, DUI is one of such cases.

Alain Dominique Perrin, owner of Château Lagrézette à Cahors, and former Cartier administrator, came up with an idea that makes it easy for French drivers to comply with the law. In fact, he will soon distribute a line of wines designed to help drivers follow the law throughout France.

The wines in question will be sold in 25 cl. mini bottles, which is roughly two glasses of wine, or the quantity that two people can drink without breaking the law. The line, rightly named "Permis de Conduire" ("Driver's Licence" in French) will be easily identifiable by the label color as well, as it will be the same color as the driver's licence.

Perrin plans to distribute 500,000 bottles in wine bars and in all the main stopping areas along the French road system. The wines comes in red (Cabernet Sauvignon) and rosé (Cinsault). They will be produced in Languedoc and bottled in in Bourgogne.
